ePaper

So called ePaper products have been in the labs for years, but Sony's eReader is ready to launch.

It is 9 ounces (255g), the size of a paperback and its flicker-free screen actually looks like a printed page. It has ink particles suspended in liquid moved around by electric charges; a sort of Etch-a-Sketch on steroids.

Senior Vice-President at Sony Electronics, Ron Hawkins says: "When you form this image each time you're not using any power to refresh the image, even when it's not changing. So you have very low power consumption.

And you can actually read on our product about 7,500 pages on a single battery charge."

Iphone security flaw to be fixed

One more strike for Apple and its iPhone. There’s a security flaw in both 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 firmware versions which would allow unwanted people to get inside your phone even when you think it’s safely locked.

I am not talking about guessing your password or anything like that. Simply hit the Emergency Call and double click the home button. You will get in the Favorites list and from there the sky is the limit. Send SMS, go to Maps or browse the Internet. And who knows what else you can do. You just cracked your iPhone. Well not like in the picture there, but you get the point.

Yes, Apple knows about this problem and yes they are going to fix it. In September! But apparently they did fix it in firmware 1.1.4. Hmmm… wonder if there next try will be successful  Anyway in the mean time what you can do until Apple decides to make the fix available is to change your home button function from Favorites to Home. That will hold off those people sniffing around your phone for a while.

Here is a video that shows how easy it is

Rumored: Apple and AT&T Working on iPhone

Here’s an interesting rumored I've came across. Apple and AT&T are apparently working on iPhone tothering. Well why not simply allow that much debated third application we like to call NetShare back in the App store?

iPhone tethering is available after jailbreaking your phone first but if AT&T gets wind of any of that you will get in trouble.

On another hand AT&T is offering tethering support for various BlackBerries so why not allow the same service for the iPhone? I am sure iPhone users wouldn’t mind tethering it once in a while.

iPhone Life, First iPhone Dedicated Magazine

Thaddeus Computing is the company behind iPhone Life which is the first print magazine dedicated to the iPhone. The first number will have about 100 pages of content and it will hit newsstands on September 9th. You will probably find it at airports, Barnes & Noble, Borders, Wal-Mart and other locations. Subscribing for $25 will get you all issues through 2010. That means at least 9 magazines if we count the first edition.
Well since the web is filled with iPhone-related information, I don’t know if a print magazine will carry all the hot and daily updated news and rumors, but it could prove to be the unofficial user manual you always wanted for your iPhone, iPhone 3G and why not, for your iPod touch

Samsung X360 Laptop Announced

Here’s a Samsung laptop you might be interested in. It’s a 13.3 inch laptop which brags to be ultraslim, ultralight and ultraportable. Kind of like the Air wouldn’t you say? It weighs an amazing 2.8 pounds and it measures from 0.66 inches to 1.2 inches at the bigger end. Since I care more about what’s inside, let’s take a quick look:

  • a Centrino 2 ULV processor
  • 1GB of RAM and up to 4GB upgrade available
  • 64GB or 128GB SSD, or a 5400RPM 120GB HDD
  • X4500 integrated graphics card
  • max screen resolution 1280 x 800
  • no optical drive
  • a 7-in-1 card reader
  • three USB ports, PCI ExpressCard/34, HDMI, VGA, LAN and a docking port
  • WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0+ EDR connectivity
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • battery life of 6 to 10 hours

There’s no official release date though and no official pricing. I’m guessing it’s going to be similar but cheaper than the Air… or not!

New Nikon D90 DSLR Arrives into Town

Nikon has announced their newest camera, the D90 DSLR and boy would I like to get my hands on it. It’s not necessarily the 12.3 megapixels or the EXPEED image processing that we’re after but rather the movie function which is a new feature for this family of cameras.
The D90 will record 320 x 216 pixels, 640 x 424 pixels or 1,280 x 720 pixels videos at 24 frames per second. The sensor is larger than the sensor of any other regular camcorder which means you’ll get
better image quality. Sure you will be limited in video length, but who says you can’t take several videos and glue them up later in your editing studio.

Other useful features include the Scene Recognition System, Live View, 3 inch screen, 0.15-second start-up, and 65ms shutter release time lag.

The pricing is as follows: the D90 body will be available for just $999.99 and $1,299.99 if you get the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens also.

MSI Announces New Gaming Laptop, the GX400

MSI has yet another gaming device ready for you. The 14.1 inch laptop baptized the GX400 is the machine we are talking about. It will bring hot new 3D graphics with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT card with built-in DDR3 512MB VRAM. There’s an Intel Core 2 Duo and an Intel PM45 Express Chipset present to boost speed.
Besides that you will get some 500GB of space, Dolby Surround Sound, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a DTV receiver, HDMI, WiFi, Bluetooth and possibly a Blu-ray player. The battery is said to give you lots of hours of gameplay.

The GX400 has some tricks up its sleeve. It has a quick launch touch sensor for switching among its five different modes: gaming, movie, presentation, office and turbo battery.

Blaupunkt Travel Pilot 500 and 700 to Deliver GPS Over Live Video

I could name a bunch of GPS manufacturers out there trying to bring real life images to their GPS systems. Why do that? Well wouldn’t you like to see the actual street your driving on right there on the device’s screen while a robotic voice advises you to take the first curve to your right?

Blaupunkt is one of them and they have two Travel Pilot ingenious models, the 500 and the 700 which will deliver that exact experience to you. See all the streets live and get the updated travel information. How is that possible? The Travel Pilot systems have a video camera on the back that captures real time video of the current view. Information is then added over the live image. Quite a nice trick. But does it work smoothly?

Blaupunkt says it does. The GPS will also monitor speed signs and alert you whenever you’re going over. Well that’s going to be annoying very useful.

Both the 500 and 700 models have video navigation and interactive voice controls. There’s Bluetooth, DVB-T digital TV, live traffic reports and media player functions. The 700 has Internet access and unconfirmed WiFi support, email and VoIP client if you need it. The internal memory is 8GB and should be more than enough for both units.

If I had a car I would definitely buy one of these

Rumored: BlackBerry Bold to Arrive from AT&T on October 2nd

We’re waiting for the Bold to finally hit the US market and it seems it’s playing hard to get. According to recent rumors, unconfirmed but pretty strong, the BlackBerry Bold is going to arrive from AT&T on October 2nd. Funny how in the mean time it’s available in Chile< as if Chile would be the home of RIM.

Be alerted when your mobile rings by Bluetooth Vibrating Bracelet.

Ok what we have here is a neat little accessory that lets you know when your mobile phone is ringing; it’s a vibrating bracelet that will vibrate every time your mobile phone rings thus alerting you that you have a call coming in.

So what use is that, my mobile phone vibrates and makes noise I hear you say? Well if you are anything like my mum, when her mobile phone rings audibly she never hears it anyway, and as for vibrating, well if it’s in her handbag the vibration on the mobile is of no use.

This is where this smart bracelet comes into play. If you wear it, no matter if your mobile is in your coat pocket or bag, you’ll be alerted by the bracelets vibration.

So who does it work, well there is a small vibration motor in there along with some Bluetooth gadgetry that ties it all neatly to your mobile phone.

Price wise its $36.99, may be considered too much, but if you get the wife or girlfriend one it’ll stop you pulling your hair out when they just don’t hear their phones

Military spec grade Samsung a837 coming to AT&T

samsung phone

Drop your mobile phone and it gets damaged, and most mobile phones simply can’t soldier on forever. This is where it may be advisable to consider some of the military spec grade mobile phones available in the mobile arena.

And one such mobile device is the Samsung a837 which is set to hit AT&T in a few weeks and will become AT&T’s first rugged military spec grade 3G handset.

opened

Canada does not use the potential of Apple iPhone 3G

Over in Canada, after all the moans and groans about the Apple iPhone 3G rate plans and high costs, it seems that those same Canadians just aren’t bothered about using the Apple iPhone 3G to its full potential but preferring to use it mostly as a voice call machine.

According to Rogers Wireless on Thursday, 1.2 percent of Canadian iPhone 3G users devoured more than one gig of data in the first four weeks after the iPhone 3G went libe on July 11th.

One gig of data equates to roughly downloading a movie or 240 songs to the iPhone 3G.

Rogers say that 95 percent of their Apple iPhone 3G customers use less than 500MB of data which equates to about 110 songs, while 91 percent use 200MB.

Spokeswoman Liz Hamilton said: “They’re learning how it can be used. The folks who were first to buy, those are the early adopters, those are the tech savvy ones and what it says is that big data buckets actually let you do a lot of stuff.”

Dont Blame GTA

Thailand has decided to ban GTA IV from sale after someone, who murdered a taxi driver, said he was inspired by the video game.
I hate people who do stuff like this and I hate politicians who use these situations to promote their right-wing, religious, censoring policies. Stop blaming GTA for these incidents, it is not the fault of Rockstar Studios that someone is stupid enough to copy what they saw in a video game. People should be blaming the parents and the Taiwanese education system for raising an idiot. Video games don't turn normal people into killers, someone already has to be pretty crazy to copy what they saw in a video game. Politicians shouldn't ban these games after one person does something stupid because normal, healthy, sane people have the right to play what they want no matter how violent it is.

Mozilla Labs Presents the Future of the Internet

Mozilla Labs wants people to start suggesting new original ideas for the future development of web browsing. The first entry worth noting is a video by Adaptive Path with a product called Aurora. Aurora isn't browser but OS which is built entirely around the Internet. Aurora will probably never be a reality but it does demonstrate the direction that both Apple and Microsoft should be taking. It is not impossible to imagine a computer which is merely a terminal to the Internet. Today we are heading in that direction, as cloud computing becomes more and more promising. Despite failures like MobileMe, new online products like web based storage, email, word processing and other utilities might bring about the demise of the desktop oriented operating systems.
Check out the Video demonstration of Aurora

Do you download movies ? | why not just watch them online ?

Why download movies when you can simply watch them online ?

Nearly everyone downloads the latest movies from lime wire or a torrent site and loads of other places

It is much easier to watch them online here are some of my reasons
if you download movies you are probably going to end up some sort of virus Trojan or spyware which will mess with your computer

my second reason is it is way faster than downloading a large file

my third is
you do not need to wait about 3 hours before you find out that its not a movie and then you need to try another download.

Here are some of the websites were I watch movies online

  1. http://watch-movies.net
  2. http://www.movies-on-demand.tv
  3. http://quicksilverscreen.com
Here are some other reasons
  • If you like having the movies on your computer 90% of the time you can download the movies
  • you can usually embed the movie on your website/blog
